Impressionism, Fashion, & Modernity

The Vera Wang Gang spent some time this week at the beautiful Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest exhibition “Impressionism, Fashion, & Modernity”. The show is inspired, featuring paintings by great Impressionists such as Monet, Manet, Renoir and more. Every so often a painting is coupled with the actual dress depicted. This show is a must see for anybody who loves all things fashion, art, and culture.

Eat: Atelier Crenn

This double Michelin Star awarded restaurant celebrates art and poetry in cuisine. Chef Dominique Crenn combines her French heritage with an aesthetic eye to create beautiful and innovative dishes that are not only delicious but visually striking as well.

Treat: Tartine Bakery & Cafe

When this bakery isn’t closed, you can find a line of eager locals going around the block- and for good reason. This small bakery in San Francisco’s mission district has arguably the best baked goods in town- not to mention the most amazing deserts you can find.

Stay: The Clift

Located in San Francisco’s downtown Union Square district, The Clift hotel mixes modern aesthetic with a sense of traditional beauty. The result is nothing other than chic. You can’t help but feel like modern royalty when staying at The Clift.

Lounge: The Burritt Room

WHERE TO EAT | Red O Restaurant, 8155 Melrose Avenue. Red O features menus designed by the renowned chef responsible for changing the image of Mexican food in America, Chef Rick Bayless. Red O cuisine is based on strictly slow cooked Mexican dishes with a Californian-style influence. Aside from the indulgent dishes the décor will be sure to keep your eyes occupied while awaiting your meal. It’s hard to miss the 14-foot communal table made of solid walnut and bronze that sits in the main dining room alongside a bar surrounded by handmade leather swings – and yes, guests can freely swing on these while they sip on their tequila, win win. The ambiance, food, and company creates the ultimate dining experience.

WHAT TO EAT | Start off with the Spicy baja yellowtail ceviche which is spicy Serrano chile, lime, red onion, avocado and cilantro oil. Next, the Wood-Grilled Tacos al Carbon with choice of three marinated grilled fillings, Shrimp, Skirt steak, Ahi tuna or Mary’s chicken. Save room for the made-to-order churros which are golden-crunchy outside and creamy inside served with warm chocolate-Kahlúa dipping sauce.

Where to Eat When You Shop | Sydney

WHERE TO EAT | Tetsuya’s Restaurant at 529 Kent Street, Sydney. Chef Tetsuya Wakuda has created a serene ambiance in the midst of the fast paced city life. The menu has been inspired by traditional Japanese cooking which includes using “natural seasonal flavors” and incorporating French technique which includes using the freshest ingredients possible. We love the degustation menu where guests enjoy 10 chef’s signature dishes in one sitting. The sampling of food was an amazing interplay of textures and flavors that explode in your mouth.

WHAT TO EAT | All of the dishes are incredible, but our favorite ones were the New Zealand scampi with chicken liver parfait & walnut vinaigrette and the seared fillet of grass-fed cape grim beef with wasabi & braised mustard seeds.

Paris Market Week

Last week our sales team were in Paris showcasing Vera’s Spring 2013 Collection – don’t we all wish we were in Paris last week?! Although it was a quick business trip they were still able to squeeze in some wonderful Parisian activities and also, master one line of French, ”Puis-je s’il vous plaît avoir une crêpe Nutella” meaning, “May I please have one Nutella crepe”. If there was any line to master, that would be the one!
