How did you and your spouse meet?

Chase and I met through a mutual friend and a beautiful friendship began. After being the best of friends for over a year, deeper feelings began stirring in our hearts. We spent the next 5 years dating, and although our years together had its ups and downs, we always found our way back to each other and through the tough times came to an understanding of what true love is.

Give us the details on your proposal. What little things made it special?

Chase was planning a big party for my 31st birthday, and I was so excited to celebrate that night with my best friends!  Around 10am, he called and told me he had a surprise for me before all of the festivities began.  He knocked on my door looking very dapper and escorted me to a town car. I had no idea where we were going! We enjoyed mimosas and breakfast in the car.  After about an hour, we pulled up to a private airport.  He finally revealed to me that we were going to take a helicopter ride over our hometown of Dallas, Texas.  Towards the end of the tour, we flew over a nearby church.  As I was looking down, I saw the words “TIFF, WILL YOU MARRY ME?”.  He had spent all night painting huge 15 foot letters across the parking lot. It was the sweetest, most precious day of my life….well until my wedding day!  And the best part was getting to celebrate with my friends and family all day and night!  It was definitely a birthday for the books!

Selecting a wedding dress can be quite a process. How did you know Vera Wang was the right choice for your big day?

When it came to wedding planning, I felt overwhelmed with how many styles and options there were to choose from. The only thing I never doubted, however, was that one day, I would have my dream wedding in Vera! When I showed up for my appointment, I told the sales associate I wanted to try on every Vera Wang gown she had! Slipping into the Ethel gown, tears began welling up in my eyes. The dress was structured, romantic, flirty, elegant, and it just felt like the perfect dress for our Hawaiian wedding! I knew she was the one!

How did you accessorize your wedding-day look? What bridal accessories did you wear and why did you choose them?

One of my favorite details from my wedding look was my bouquet. It was simple yet elegant and incorporated personal details that included an embroidered handkerchief I gave my mother that morning as a gift (something borrowed), and my late grandmother’s favorite broach (something old). I wanted to bring in my something blue in my earrings and fell in love with a gorgeous pair designed by Alexis Bittar.  I chose champagne colored Jimmy Choos that were the perfect heel for dancing the night away under the Maui stars.

Was there a theme or palette you were working with for your wedding? What was the inspiration behind it?

We ended up choosing a historic sugar plantation to say our “I Do’s”. The property is stunning with a gorgeous beach, swaying palm trees, and a classic plantation-style home with a wrap around porch. It was the perfect place for me to get ready, take in the beautiful view, and enjoy a morning of relaxation sipping bubbles with my best girlfriends.

I wanted the decor to be elegant without compromising the casual feel to a beach wedding, and I couldn’t have had better support for planning a wedding so far away. Darren Keala and Shane Canada with Bliss Wedding Design and Spectacular Events recommended the best local vendors, and took the time to understand Chase and I as couple, as well as our vision for our special day. We thought floating chandeliers over long rustic tables with gold Chiavari chairs would be a great start to accomplishing our vision.

I wanted to keep my colors earthy using natural greens, tans, and creams from flowers, but after seeing the palate, I couldn’t help but feel that something was missing. After talking to close friend and owner/lead designer of Gro Floral and Event Design in Dallas, Nathan Johnson, about our story and hopes for the day, he had the great idea of incorporating different shades of orange, inspired by Hawaii’s breathtaking sunsets. In addition, my father was a farmer, and I grew up smack dab in the middle of an orange orchard. Nathan thought that incorporating the color orange would be a great way to honor my childhood. I couldn’t agree more and decided to add Nathan to my team! Looking back at my pictures, I’m so thankful that we chose to bring in a color! It just made everything pop and brought life to our table settings.

In addition to your wedding gown, was Vera Wang part of your wedding in other ways?

I had a Vera Wang belt that I coupled with my dress.  I also wore the belt when I changed into my party dress for the end of the night!

Any advice to share with women who are about to embark on this incredible journey of planning their wedding and selecting their wedding dress?

The best advice I can offer other brides is actually straight from the mouth of my sweet (and wise beyond his years) husband. A couple weeks prior to our big day, I was stressing about so many minor details. He said, “Honey, the sooner you realize that the day will not be perfect, the happier you will be.”  He told me that our wedding is not about perfection but about the love we share, the vows we will make, and the union we are proclaiming before our Lord. Everything else is the proverbial icing on the cake!” Okay, I added that part, but he was so right! The day was not perfect no matter how hard I worked to make sure that it would be.  In the midst of the imperfection, I was able to recall his words, remember what this very special day was all about, and only see the beauty, friendships, and love that surrounded us! Then I realized that it was indeed, perfect.
