Wedding planning should be an exciting experience, filled with wedding dress shopping, outings with mom and your best friends, and lots of glasses of champagne. And while there are stressful moments, such as determining the final guest list and wedding budget, we want to ensure that you include as much fun into your engagement as possible. So we asked Britain’s top celebrity wedding planner, Mark Niemierko, for his top tips on what brides and grooms should add to their wedding to-do lists when in London.

And if you aren’t planning a trip to Great Britain before you say, “I do” there are plenty of things on his list you can do in your hometown.

Pick up a Keepsake Box by Anya Hindmarch Bespoke
Create a memento of your wedding planning experience with a leather keepsake box by British designer Anya Hindmarch. I present all my Niemierko Brides with a keepsake box designed by Anya, embossed with the words “Wedding Planning Essentials” in gold lettering. As a unique personal touch, inside is a photograph of my grandparents, Joyce and Edwin, on their wedding day on 2nd October 1948. They were happily married for 62 years.

Keep Track of Your Plans with Wedding Notes from Smythson
Smythson of Bond Street is a British classic. An essential for any bride planning her wedding is either the handbag-sized Wedding Notes or their Tying The Knot leather wedding planner. Perfect to jot down all those wedding ideas and inspirations.

When in Town Stay at The Rosewood London
Book a “house” within the Rosewood London, London’s latest luxury hotel. You and your Bridal party can enjoy a pre-weekend away — enter via a peaceful courtyard close to Covent Garden and enjoy the relaxation of their spa whilst your personal butler arranges your every need.

Cocktails at The Connaught are a Must
Get your taste buds flowing with ideas on what cocktails to serve on your wedding day with The Connaught Bar’s internationally renowned mixologist, Agostino Perrone. From a variety of flavoured martinis to a Hendricks and tonic, Mr. Perrone will add his charm to your favourite classic.

Wedding Dress Shopping Followed by Tea
Post a day of trying on wedding dresses at London’s Vera Wang at Browns boutique you’ll need to celebrate on finding the one – dress that is! I take my brides along to Fortnum and Mason for a champagne afternoon tea. A favourite with the Queen, Fortnum’s has been established on London’s Piccadilly since 1707.

Pop into Peggy Porschen’s Parlour.
Niemierko Brides’ and Grooms’ favourite wedding cake designer Peggy Porschen has the prettiest parlour in London’s Belgravia. Pop in for a cupcake, pink champagne and get sweetly inspired by the designer of model Kate Moss’ wedding cake.

Draw Inspiration Down Saville Row for Your Fiancé
For sartorial style, head to London’s famous Saville Row. Nothing is more handsomely English than a groom in a well cut Saville Row suit. Read up on the history of the street and how fine custom tailoring came to define it, in the book Bespoke: The Men’s Style of Saville Row, available on Amazon now.

Discover Your Wedding-Day Fragrance at Penhaligon’s
Finding a scent for your wedding day can be as tricky as the dress. Royal perfumer Penhaligon’s is perfectly placed with scents such as Lily of the Valley to match your classical floral bouquet.

Have a makeup lesson with Arabella Preston
Following in the trend of the Duchess of Cambridge , it’s become popular for brides to do their own makeup on their wedding day. So why not follow in her footsteps with a personal makeup lesson with Arabella Preston who gave Catherine lessons for the Royal Wedding back in 2011.

Wear a Tiara by Andrew Prince Jewellery
Nothing is more British than a tiara. And I wouldn’t recommend anyone else than Andrew Prince. Having made pieces for Dame Maggie Smith for her role as the Dowager Duchess in Downtown Abbey, Andrew will ensure you sparkle on your wedding day. His pieces are now available stateside at Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
