How did you and your spouse meet?
Bryan and I first crossed paths at UC Berkeley, when I was a freshman, however, our interaction was never more than the occasional shared smile as we passed one another on the way to class. Seven years later, I stopped at Trader Joe’s in Westwood after the gym. As I was walking in, a tall, handsome, vaguely familiar, young man walked out with two bags in hand. Just before we passed one another, I heard him ask, “Marisa?” We stopped, talked, and set-up a date. I was smitten and although quick I knew this was the man I would marry.
Give us the details on your proposal. What little things made it special?
After a day of biking around Paris, Bryan suggested we stop at the Louvre to take a picture as the sun was setting and the lighting was amazing. To my surprise, he dropped to one knee and proposed. It was perfect.
How did you accessorize your wedding-day look? What bridal accessories did you wear and why did you choose them?
I wore a Vera Wang veil and added sparkle with flower diamond earrings, a diamond tennis bracelet, and glittered Jimmy Choo wedges.
Was there a theme or palette you were working with for your wedding? What was the inspiration behind it?
Santa Barbara is a special place for Bryan and me and so our venue, Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore, was an easy decision. We kept it simple allowing the natural beauty of Butterfly Beach and the Santa Ynez mountains to be the focal point and added touches of blush, champagne and ivory to create a romantic and soft feel.
Did you incorporate any specific traditions into your wedding? Such as the old adage “Something old, new, borrowed, and blue?
Bryan inherited his grandfather’s gold wedding band inscribed with his grandparents’ initials and wedding date to which we added our initials and wedding date.
Any advice to share with women who are about to embark on this incredible journey of planning their wedding and selecting their wedding dress?
Pick a dress you love. It should feel like you and you should be comfortable.
