One shoulder drop waist classic lingerie-inspired ball gown with hand-pieced organza petal details and floating tulip and rose lace accent.
Laura is one of the most whimsical dresses in this collection. You can see it in the playful sash of hand-pieced organza petals, and in a belle-of-the-ball peplum of floating tulip and rose lace. Nothing is too serious in Laura — everything in the gown simply flutters serendipitously from one placement to the next.
The most structured piece of this design is probably the lingerie-inspired bodice. It’s done bustier-style, very sexy, with exposed corset boning. It not only looks visually striking, but it’s extremely slimming, too. The lines created by the boning subtly draw the eye inward to the waist’s smallest point, and a curve-enhancing drop waist defines the hip beautifully. A curved line in the back and a soft sweetheart neckline only add to the femininity and romantic appeal. Finally, a sash of organza petals falls across the bodice like a garland, adding a bit of fanciful texture.
With all the visual excitement of the bodice, I wanted to build an atmosphere of tranquility and simplicity in the skirt. It’s almost minimalist, with only the slightest lace accent. Diaphanous tulle layers fall from the hip like transparent leaves of rice paper, allowing light to play through so many different volumes and layers. It’s very ethereal. Then, just a hint of tulip and rose lace encircles the waist, almost like a peplum would, before trailing off in the back of the gown into two points, like wings. The tulle layers of the skirt give way to a dazzling cathedral-length train.
Amorous and full of life, Laura will suit brides with an unabashed flair for the dramatic.
