First things first, where did you meet your husband and was it love at first site? Christian and I met in July 2001 on a night out with mutual friends in Philadelphia. Christian had just graduated from college and was spending the summer in Philly. I was on summer break and was visiting a friend. Christian and his friend came to pick us up so that we could all head into Old City. We ended up spending most of the night in a traffic jam. I never had so much fun sitting in traffic before that night. So yes, I do think it was love at first site.
How did he propose? Tell us the story! Christian and I spent an October weekend at his parent’s house in upstate New York. The house has the most beautiful view of the Berkshires. We made dinner and watched the sunset and before I knew what was happening Christian was down on one knee asking me to marry him. It was perfect.
Once the wedding plans started, what made you decide on a Vera Wang gown? It was always my dream to wear a Vera Wang dress! I have loved so many of her designs. My first time at the flagship store was an amazing experience and it didn’t end there. It was such a fun personal experience.
As Vera has started to veer away from traditional white/ivory gowns shown in her recent Fall 2012 Collection, was an alternate color something you considered? I always envisioned myself walking down the aisle in a traditional white or ivory gown.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day unique? I knew that I wanted a long veil and we decided on a cathedral length veil, which I think added so much to the dress. I also wore a pair of beautiful Vera Wang drop earrings and my mom’s pearl bracelet.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding? We both wanted a very classic, traditional wedding.
Did you incorporate any other Vera Wang products into your wedding? (I.e. fragrance, fine papers etc.) If so how? I wore Vera Wang earrings that I bought at one of my fittings. Also, all of our china is Vera Wang, Blanc Sur Blanc.
Did you stay true to the Old English wedding rhyme: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. If so, what were yours? Yes! I had a blue garter from my sister but our color was navy so that I had a small amount of blue in my flowers. The something borrowed was a beautiful bracelet from my mom that had strands of pearls with a diamond clasp and the something new was definitely my dress!
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress? Don’t have any expectations for what you want in a dress. Try a bunch of different styles because you might end up loving a style that you never thought you would wear!
What was your favorite part of the day? And, are there any other anecdotes you would like to share? When I woke on the morning of the wedding and saw that it was 68 degrees and sunny on January 7th in New York City, I knew we would have a perfect day. As soon as I walked into the Lighthouse and saw the amazing flowers, I was overwhelmed with joy. We had so much fun taking pictures together while the sunset over the Hudson River. My favorite part of the day was when Christian and I made our entrance into the reception as husband and wife before beginning our first dance. It was so amazing to see everything come together like the flowers and the table names but especially to see all of our friends and family in one room together supporting us. There was so much love in the room!
