Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress? Because I’m quite petite, I knew I wanted a dress that was a little more fitted and wouldn’t overwhelm my frame. Naturally, I was also looking for a dress to match my personality and personal style as most brides often do.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown? I went to Vera Wang to try on a gown. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one. The way it made me feel was exactly the way I wanted to feel as I walked down the aisle and it reflected me perfectly. When you know, you know.
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision? My maid of honor and a very dear friend came with me. When I walked out of the fitting room, I saw the three biggest smiles I’ve ever witnessed. Two on the people I had brought with me and one on myself looking in the mirror. I had fallen in love.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique? The dress was so gorgegous on its own, but I couldn’t help myself when I saw an overwhelming sparkle coming across the room from a crystal sash hanging in the Bridal Salon. Along with the sash and a Vera Wang veil, I borrowed diamond stud earring from my Mom and wore a pair of silver glitter strappy sandals by Jimmy Choo. I was incredibly close with my Grandfather who passed a few years ago so I pinned his monogram pin that he wore everyday to my bouquet to keep him close.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding? We wanted a fun, elegant and romatic wedding. Something like the magnificent parties hosted by Jay Gastby in The Great Gastby. An evening where no one ever left the dance floor until the very last song was played. A evening filled with love, laughter and a little bit of sparkle.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding? I think the romantic glamour of the dress was carried throughout all aspects of the wedding.
What was your favorite part of the day? Walking down the aisle while the rain fell onto the magnificent glass house was something I’ll never forget along with seeing the face of my soon to be husband light up so bright when he saw me turn the corner. It’s quite hard to even describe the day and the feeling you get when looking around and seeing those that you love all gathered together to support and celebrate in your love. I could not imagine anything better.
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress? You only do this once, so be sure to wear the dress of your dreams. It’s absolutely the only way to go. There is no need to worry about what anyone else thinks. This is your day. (My Mom’s tip to me. She’s the greatest person on the planet and that was the best tip I could have received.)
Are there any other anecdotes you’d like to share? The day is about you and your man. Be sure to grab his hand, take a step back, and really take it all in.
