Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
Once I had the wedding date and venue confirmed I dress shopping. I gravitated toward dresses that matched the season and venue, as I have a tendency to coordinate a lot! I wanted my dress to match my personality and personal style; simple, elegant, and feminine. Even now, months after my wedding, I receive compliments from friends that they loved my look because it looks exactly like me. This always makes me happy because it confirms that I stayed true to my style and my gown represented me perfectly.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
It took me a few trips to finally decide on “The Dress”, but my wedding gown was actually the first dress I tried at Vera Wang. I listened to advice from several brides to keep an open mind about trying on different silhouettes and colors, but I kept thinking about that first dress and how it matched my personality and style perfectly. I went back to Vera Wang and realized it truly was perfect gown for me! The staff and experience at the Vera Wang store was also remarkable. They truly made me feel like a bride and were very accommodating.
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision?
I did several dress shopping trips that included my mom and sister. They gave amazing input throughout my entire dress shopping experiences, but the final decision was all mine. As I was standing in my dress with my veil in front of the three-dimensional mirrors in the Vera Wang store, I decided this was my wedding gown. My mom and sister are an amazing support team and their input was important to me, but they also wanted me to make the final decision as it is was my wedding day.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique?
Accessories are very important to me! Because my dress had a simple constructive design, I thought accessories would nicely compliment my overall look. The colors for our wedding were pewter grey and fuchsia pink, to add a pop of color I had fuchsia pink Kate Spade shoes that matched back to my bridesmaids shoes as well. My hair was a simple design that again matched back to my dress and overall look. I had a hand-made, custom hair brooch created by Gracylu Originals. I completed my wedding day look with vintage jewelry that was my “Something Borrowed” element for my big day. This jewelry is very special to my family as all the pieces were passed along from my late great aunt who had amazing style!
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
I usually always describe my wedding theme as “updated vintage.” The venue is a rejuvenated movie theatre that has the original appeal and architecture, situated in an old transformed neighborhood of Philadelphia. Some of our vintage elements consisted of the venue itself, custom designed silhouettes that we used in stationery, and our bride and groom wedding cake topper. We added in some fun updates with pops of fuchsia in the stationery, cocktails, and flowers.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding?
My custom hair brooch was designed to go with the color and simplicity of my gown. My shoes also related back to my dress, as this was a subtle detail that was important to me. We also designed our wedding cake to match my dress.
Did you incorporate any other Vera Wang products into your wedding? If so, how?
The other Vera Wang element that I incorporated in my wedding was my veil, which again was perfect for my overall look and style. The shorter veil was simple and matched perfectly with my gown.
What was your favorite part of the day?
I have so many favorite parts of the day! I love prepping with my family and bridesmaids before the ceremony, my dad seeing me for the first time in my gown, and dancing all night. But my most favorite part of the day was seeing my groom for the first time. We had a lot of our pictures done before the actual ceremony. Standing in beautiful 16th century gardens on an early Summer day with my gown and veil, waiting to see my husband’s reaction was a moment that was so special and I will always remember.
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
Stay true to your style and find a dress that symbolizes who you are. Have fun and try on as many different styles and fabrics, but in the end go with your instincts and choose a gown that is perfect for who you are. Also pick something this is comfortable, because you will have that gown on for hours!
