Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
Most importantly, I wanted to find a wedding gown that I felt beautiful in and that I really enjoyed wearing. I knew I wanted a sweetheart neckline and something that would show my personal style. I envisioned something fun, contemporary and unique, but still keeping a traditional, romantic look.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
I had seen images of the Diana gown in magazines and, although I wanted to remain open-minded about the whole process, I always hoped that it would be the one. I tried several other gowns on and the first time I saw myself in the Diana I knew it was the one. In my opinion, nothing compares to a Vera Wang wedding gown and the amazing ladies at l’atelier couture in Minneapolis made the whole experience so perfect. Everything just seemed to fall into place after I found my gown.
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision?
My mother and sister joined me at my first appointment. They know me better than anyone, so I knew I could count on them to tell me their honest opinion. There were plenty of gowns that we all loved, but when I stepped out wearing the Diana, they knew the search was over. To confirm that I made the right decision, we brought my dad to show him the favorites. The second I walked out of the dressing room he teared up and I knew without a doubt that this was the one.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique?
I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the gown, but I did want to find a sash to accent my waist. I decided to add a Vera Wang horsehair sash and it complimented the style of the gown perfectly. I kept jewelry pretty simple with pave, teardrop earrings and trio of vintage crystal and pearl bracelets. I wore a tiered elbow length veil and ivory satin Louboutin peep toe slingback shoes.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
We wanted to keep our wedding day pretty traditional and timeless. Although we didn’t really have a wedding theme in mind, the decor and overall design elements had sort of a vintage-glamour look; from the lace linen, vintage vanity mirrors used for table numbers to the all white floral and candlelight.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding?
The silk organza and tulle textured layers of my gown were carried through to our table linen selection. We chose soft white and silver linen with vintage, lace and textured looks.
Did you incorporate any other Vera Wang products into your wedding? If so, how?
I accessorized the gown with a Vera Wang horse hair sash and to thank some of our vendors for helping us create such an amazing wedding day, we gifted them with Vera Wang crystal vases.
What was your favorite part of the day?
Other than marrying my husband surrounded by our family and closest friends, my favorite part of the day was when I put my gown on and seeing my husband-to-be for the first time. It was truly the best day of my life.
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
My recommendation for brides just beginning the search for their wedding dress is to be very open to trying styles that you may have never considered. You might be surprised at what you end up loving. You’ll know you’ve found the one when you can imagine everything falling into place and you can’t stop thinking about wearing it on your wedding day.
