Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
I knew I wanted a dress that made me feel unique, whimsical, romantic, but at the same time light and ethereal. And I knew I didn’t want a white dress. Of course this was easier said than done:-). Luckily I had seen a lot of dresses from Vera before we decided to get married and I knew she must have designed a dress that would fit my criteria. I just had to find it!
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
Vera Wang was the first designer I wanted to try on. I went to a store, tried a few gowns from Vera on, and I liked at least three of them. I didn’t want to impulse buy my wedding dress, so I kept looking for a while and tried a few other designers on. But I kept on imagining myself walking down the aisle wearing that nude Deidre gown. So I went back, tried it on again together with a few more from Vera, and still had my heart set on it.
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision?
The first time I went to the store, I brought a friend. When I went back and bought the dress, I was on my own. My mom and my closest friends are all in Italy so I sent them pics of the gown. They were all really excited and thought that the dress was unique and had my name on it. Minutes before I ordered my Deidre gown, I called my mum from the store and she started getting really emotional and excited. She couldn’t wait to see the dress!
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique?
I didn’t want a veil, and I wanted a softer natural look that would complement the dress without overwhelming it. So I had an amazing stylist from Vera Wang working with me to design a custom made hairpiece that I could use in my loose hair for my special day. As for the shoes, I chose a pair of satin sandals in the nude color.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
I am 100% Italian and met my husband Aron a month after I moved away from Italy, while we were both working in London and I couldn’t speak a single word of English! We had to go long-distance a few months after we met, as he had to move back to the States for work. We were apart (New York-London) for three years and a half, then finally we got reunited in Boston a couple of years ago. Because of cultural and religious differences, we wanted to have a wedding that was non-denominational and just ours. We also wanted to have a romantic and intimate feeling and use our special day to bring together our friends who live everywhere in the world (Italy, England, USA). I think we perfectly realized our dream. Our wedding was intimate, joyful, and as one of our guests defined it “fancy from the heart”.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding?
I wanted the dress to be unique and to stand out from the rest of the wedding. The only thing matching with my outfit were Aron’s bow tie and pocket square. We chose white and green flowers and wine color details to create a classy and beautiful contrast. I think that in the end the color combination worked really well.
Did you incorporate any other Vera Wang products into your wedding? If so, how?
I wore my Vera Wang Princess fragrance for the day. It is my everyday fragrance and it makes me feel sensual and beautiful, so I couldn’t give up on it for our special day.
What was your favorite part of the day?
It’s hard to say really. Probably when we exchanged our vows. We wrote them ourselves and they truly reflected how we feel for each other, and how our love grew stronger despite the physical distance and our cultural differences
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
Don’t let tradition and conventions influence you too much. Decide what you want and carefully search for a gown that is what you really have in mind and makes you feel special and beautiful.
