Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
I knew that I wanted something soft and romantic – think chiffon, tulle, lace. I also wanted a dress that would make me look taller, as I’m very petite.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
I decided on the Le Notre because it was an amazing combination of everything I was looking for, and more! The lace design on the dress was exquisite and gave the dress a classic feel, but the silhouette was very modern. Also, the dress made me look taller than I actually was – somehow, it elongated my frame, and yet accentuated my few curves. I remember looking in the mirror and thinking to myself, “How is this possible?”
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision?
I brought my parents with me. My mother felt strongly about a dress with lace detail, so the Le Notre really resonated with her.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique?
I wanted to keep my look classic and elegant, but also soft and romantic. Since the Le Notre has such a beautiful lace design, I didn’t want to overwhelm by over-accessorizing. I wore simple crystal earrings, a thin silver bracelet, and orchids in my hair for the ceremony. For the reception, my hairstylist took out the orchids and weaved in a few tiny crystal stars.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
The inspirations for our wedding were the amazing teal color of the ballroom at the Toronto Four Seasons, and the pretty pastel colors of French macaroons. With the help of our wedding planner, Cynthia Martyn, my husband and I decided on a palette of ivory, buttery yellows, gold, and soft teals, which went beautifully with the ballroom. On alternating tables, instead of floral centerpieces, we had small towers of French macaroons in pale blue, antique gold, and ivory.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding?
Our wedding design elements were soft, classic, and romantic, very much like the style of my wedding gown. Our invitations and thank you cards were ivory with gold lettering, and our wedding cake was a soft ivory color, with gold-brushed embroidery and a pale blue sugar sash and bow. The classic, romantic feel extended to our bouquets and floral centerpieces – creamy ivory and soft yellow garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, peonies, and orchids.
What was your favorite part of the day?
My favorite part of the day was listening to the speeches our families, best man, and maid of honor gave. I just felt so surrounded by love.
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
Choose a silhouette that flatters your figure. Pick something that reflects you and your own personal style. And don’t hesitate to try on all kinds of different designs, even if some aren’t necessarily what you were initially looking for – you might be surprised!
