Thursday night @VeraWangGang was lucky enough to attend Alicia Keys’ Piano and I show at the Beacon Theater, which celebrated the tenth anniversary of her first album, Songs in A Minor. Unlike her sold-out arena concerts, Alicia performed with just her piano as accompaniment. The show felt uniquely intimate, giving those lucky enough to attend a taste of “her favorite type of show.” She even told the audience, “it’s like you’re in my living room!”
She opened up with a powerful rendition of the Beatles’ Blackbird, following up with a variety of songs both old and new. Throwbacks like Fallin’, A Woman’s Worth, and If I Ain’t Got You were all audience favorites. A true New York girl, she finished with hits Empire State of Mind and No One, which got the whole crowd up and partying.
Watching her on stage made us think back to the elegant wedding dress Vera created for Alicia. The show was unforgettable!
