Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
I didn’t at that time. My parents have an apartment on Madison Avenue, where they live part-time. My engagement took place at one of the W hotels in Manhattan. The very next day walking down Madison Avenue, I stopped into Vera Wang and immediatley saw the gown I was going to wear on my wedding day.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
It was the most beautiful gown I have ever seen. The detail in the layering of the fabric was incredible. The workmanship and design was beyond creative. It the was the perfect blend of tradition and modernity and at that time I realized I wanted to be a “contemporary princess.”
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping? If so, did their opinions influence your final decision?
I brought my parents and my sister. They give the best constructive criticism and their opinions mean a lot to me. However, when I saw my gown for he first time I don’t think anyone could have changed my mind about it. After spending a week in New York going to practically every bridal boutique and showroom in the city and over 20 dresses later they agreed. My first choice was the best choice. No other dress could compare.
How did you accessorize to make your wedding day outfit unique?
Knowing that buying the dress in NY would be a problem with fittings, we came back to Miami and met Camille Russler at Ever After. She dressed me from head to toe. I wore a Vera Wang runway veil and “Victoria Headpieces” in my hair. We chose Oscar de la Renta white satin shoes.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
Modern twist on tradition.
Did your gown style relate to any other design elements of the wedding?
The entire wedding was planned around the style of my dress. The cake, centerpieces, and even invitations were elegant with a contemporary feel.
What was your favorite part of the day?
Seeing Matthew for the first time.
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
Don’t let other people influence you. Stick to your vision.
Are there any other anecdotes you would like to share?
This is such an amazing time in your life. Everything goes by so fast starting from the moment you get engaged. Try not to get stressed out during the planning process. And when it comes to the day of the wedding, take the time to look around the room. It is a very special day. Take it all in.
