Did you have a certain style in mind when you started your search for a dress?
I always had my eye on a mermaid-style gown.
What made you decide on your Vera Wang gown?
Vera Wang is one of the most desired designers in the wedding industry, and every bride dreams of walking down the aisle in a gorgeous Vera gown. When I first saw “Helene,” it was fashionable yet timeless, and the light ivory stretch Mikado fabric was absolutely beautiful. It was love at first sight!
Did you bring anyone along dress shopping to help make a decision?
No. I knew that when I found the perfect dress, I would just know.
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
My theme was black and white and inspiration was the white rose because it represents classic elegance. My mom and I incorporated this theme throughout every aspect of the wedding, from the rose table centerpieces, rosette-tied chair sashes and rose fold napkins to the rose-flavored ice cream and rose sugar cookie favors.
What was your favorite part of the day?
The cake cutting! Rather than having the traditional tiered wedding cake with roses, I surprised my husband with a groom’s cake of his favorite pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers and our two dogs, lovingly made by Rick Reichart at Cakelava. Our dogs looked so unbelievably real that when we cut into our rascal pug’s backside, everyone in the ballroom screamed!
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
Start looking early and allow at least six months for delivery. Also, find a dress that truly expresses your style.
