Athleticism as Inspiration

Grey gymnasium short with welted cuff

My whole life has been about movement. I danced with Balanchine School of American Ballet, which is a feeder school to the New York City Ballet, and I skated for 16 years. I used to be a runner, a very serious runner, and skier. And I’m a tennis player, now golfer, and a swimmer. My life really revolved a lot around sports, so I think that affects how I look at the body. I love sharp athleticism as much as I love the sorts of knits that are in these more esoteric dresses. I like the combination of the two. That kind of tension is interesting to me and it always will be. I think women are more complex than any one thing. I think they can be many things.

This look is from the Spring 2011 RTW Collection (Charcoal cotton canvas sleeveless jacket with zipper detail tied with sumo rope belt. Dark grey mélange jersey boy athletic tee. Grey gymnasium short with welted cuff.)
