Behind the Dress: Estelle

Estelle Gown

Estelle is effortlessly chic, with organza bias tiers that communicate a powerful simplicity. For this wedding dress, I have accentuated the waistline with an origami pleated horsehair sash, creating a focal point to the classic mermaid silhouette, with alternating horsehair and organza bias tiers.

I love bows for their symbolism of grace and femininity. On a wedding dress, a non-traditional bow such as the one on Estelle, makes an edgier statement in contrast to traditional bows, which are better suited to cover up hooks, for stitching details or, if at the waistline, for a more conservative look.

As a philosophy, ornamentation on a wedding dress should accentuate but never overpower the dress itself. Fabric ornamentation added in the form of bows and sashes are well-suited to where engineered ornamentation such as beading is too much. In the case of Estelle, the tiers of fabric are powerful details, anything more than this sash would overwhelm.
