We all knew Evan Lysacek could get down on the dance floor—he’s a gold medalist figure skater and “Dancing with the Stars” graduate, after all—but Vera showed us all a move or two when the two of them showed up at the Mercer Street store for Fashion’s Night Out.
Before they wowed the crowd with their groove, there was a little good old-fashioned rock concert-like mayhem as fans snapped cellphone pics while Vera and Evan posed in the StudioBooth, an impromptu photo “studio” where guests primped and posed for their close-ups all night long, which were projected on a giant wall in the store that was visible from the street.
Against a stark white backdrop, darling “it” girls and boys took their picture with Vera as they shopped the fall collection.
But then, it was all about The Dance. Baby-faced DJs, Jacob DeKat and Prince Peter, kicked things off with an oldie but a goodie, “Dancing in the Streets” by Martha and the Vandellas, and Vera and Evan pulled the shy crowd in and got them all silly and sweaty.
There was a moment where it seemed like everyone might actually take it into the streets for an unofficial dance party, like we were all living out a scene in a musical. Vera was beaming, the crowd was eating it up, the streets were crawling with snazzily dressed fashionistas, and Fashion’s Night Out—and fashion week—had only just begun.
